Edy Reja insists there is “no Mauro Zarate problem,” but confirms Giuseppe Sculli will start in his place against Bologna.

There have been reports for a year of disagreements between the Lazio Coach and his star player, as the tactician publicly slammed his work rate and tendency to hog the ball.

“Zarate played 90 minutes for three games in a row and is coming off a slight muscular twinge, so he will be on the bench. There is no Zarate problem,” assured Reja.

“I have reiterated my ideas numerous times. I will carry on and try to always improve. We must be careful, as in the second half of the season it's tougher to take home points. This is why I'm keeping everyone on edge.

“Sculli is not yet ready to play 90 minutes, but he will probably start the game, even if I don't know how long his legs will hold up.

“Sergio Floccari has rested recently, so he will be the centre-forward.”

Lazio suffered a blow midweek with their Coppa Italia exit at the hands of rivals Roma.

“That will absolutely not affect our mentality. In fact, the performance gave us an extra boost of confidence going into the game with Bologna.

“We have rediscovered the right spirit, even if obviously there are regrets over the result. We cannot underestimate Bologna, who in the wake of their club problems are even more eager to prove themselves on the field.”

Bologna are in turmoil after President Massimo Zanetti resigned on Friday, less than a month after taking over.
