Edy Reja admits Atalanta “lost intensity” in their 3-1 home defeat to Milan, having taken an early lead.
“We went in front and, as often happens, we lost our way tactically. It’s a shame, as with Davide Zappacosta and Papu Gomez we found room down that flank several times,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“I thought we might’ve had a penalty, but then Milan came out and were really determined to end the season well.

“I thought we might’ve had a penalty, but then Milan came out and were really determined to end the season well.
“I had been pretty pleased with the first half, but the third goal was entirely avoidable. I remain satisfied with my time on the bench and we can prepare for next season.
“It was difficult, as Atalanta were accustomed to being mid-table, so finding themselves in the drop zone affected confidence.
“We drew against Napoli and Lazio, which boosted morale and allowed us to ensure our Serie A status.
“The lads worked so hard to reach this point and after safety was secured they lost intensity. We only managed about half an hour in each game.”
Reja has been confirmed as Coach of Atalanta for next season, having replaced Stefano Colantuono.
“If you don’t have enthusiasm, then it’s best to just give up. Last year I left Lazio because we were playing for the Europa League, there were 30,000 people in the stadium and they were jeering us too.
“I didn’t feel the team deserved that, as we came so close to the Europa League and if the supporters had given us a hand then we might’ve got there.
“I made a choice, told the President I didn’t feel like working in that environment and moved on. I found a more relaxed environment here and am looking forward to next term.”
