Pepe Reina explains 'some mistakes are conceivable' at the beginning of the season, but feels Napoli will be fine without Gonzalo Higuain.

The Partenopei have already fallen two points behind Juventus after the first two games in Serie A, having shown a strong attack but some deficiencies in the back-line.

“The defence isn't made up only of the defenders and the goalkeeper,” Reina told Il Corriere dello Sport. “In the end we're all attacking and defending together.

“It's conceivable that there may be some mistakes in the beginning, even though last year we managed a series of games without conceding any goals. The team still isn't in top condition, but I'm satisfied with the four points we picked up so far and I believe we'll develop.”

Reina then went on to discuss several of his team-members, both current and former.

“[Kalidou] Koulibaly's renewal is fantastic news, in my opinion. For those of us who fight in the defence, he's a key player.

“Arek Milik has an excellent character and an exemplary behaviour. He can help us for the present and the future. As for who gives me the greatest headaches in training, I'd say more or less everyone does, from Dries [Mertens] to Marek [Hamsik].

“Higuain? I don't think there's any need to discuss him further. Without him, maybe Callejon will score more goals, the way he did in our first championship with Napoli.

“Everyone can score more and do much better, especially now that we don't have the contribution of the Pipita.

“For the good and for the bad, the Azzurri colours are what matters. We'll honour them until the end.”
