Pepe Reina admits Lazio ‘should’ve killed off the game earlier’ and risked defeat in their 1-1 draw with Benevento. ‘We have to be hungrier.’

Ciro Immobile’s volley had put them in front at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito, but after dominating for the entire first half, they conceded Pasquale Schiattarella’s strike on the stroke of half-time.

“We should’ve finished it earlier. They were close to the box when it was 1-0, but didn’t do much. We have to be more determined, more clinical and kill off the games,” the goalkeeper told DAZN.

“We left it open and could even have lost it at the end, so we have to learn from this and be hungrier in future. We can’t keep doing this.

“An equaliser on the stroke of half-time is annoying, of course, but we had the entire second half to get it back on track and these would’ve been three fundamental points. Now we’ve got a final coming up with Napoli at the Olimpico.

“We are a team who run risks, try to defend high and be pro-active. We need to defend better, but today I felt the problem was at the other end, as we should’ve killed off the game earlier.

“The Champions League is in February, there are so many matches we have to play before that. We’ve got to make sure we get up there in the top slots, otherwise it’ll be too late.”
