Pepe Reina believes Napoli took ‘an important step forward’ by beating Club Brugge in the Europa League.

The Vesuviani demolished the visitors 5-0 at San Paolo, their first win of the season after a difficult start in Serie A.

“It was an important step forward,” Reina told Sky after the match.

“The game was always under control, and that’s important. At San Paolo we have to be consistent for 90 minutes, and we played a great game today.

“It was an important step forward,” Reina told Sky after the match.

“The game was always under control, and that’s important. At San Paolo we have to be consistent for 90 minutes, and we played a great game today.

“It was important not to concede a goal, but now we’re thinking about Sunday [against Lazio].

“Was it a turning point? Hopefully, every game is important. We want to show consistency and win a tough game against Lazio.”

The former Liverpool man also gave his assessment of new Coach Maurizio Sarri, who has come under pressure this week.

“He told us that he’s come from the bottom, and he’d kill anyone to do well. His determination is essential to make it clear to everyone that we can do well.

“I have no doubts about Sarri, I believe in him 100 per cent, but unfortunately that’s just how it is in Naples, there are 2 million Coaches.

“The only thing we have to do is to improve every week.”
