It’s another sad day for Italian football, as Venezia, Reggina and Varese have all been declared bankrupt.

They failed to meet the deadline to register for the Lega Pro season.

At this point, the clubs can begin again from Serie D if they find new buyers willing to start all over.

Reggina hail from Reggio Calabria and were in Serie A as recently as 2009, including memorable names like Walter Mazzarri and Andrea Pirlo.

Reggina hail from Reggio Calabria and were in Serie A as recently as 2009, including memorable names like Walter Mazzarri and Andrea Pirlo.

Venezia were in the top flight until 2001-02 with names like Alvaro Recoba, but collapsed after President Maurizio Zamparini left to take over at Palermo.

It’s not a new development for Venezia, as this is their third bankruptcy in the last 10 years.

Varese finished 22nd in the Serie B table last season and have been unable to register for the Lega Pro campaign.

The club celebrated its centenary in 2010, but hasn’t been in Serie A since 1975.
