The punishment comes after the club were found to have breached financial regularity rules regarding the payment of their players. They have also been fined €7,000.

The deduction means the Amaranto are now on 25 points, 15 off a relegation play-off place with five games remaining in the season.

While they can still mathematically draw level on points with fifth bottom Novara, their rivals’ superior head to head record ensures Reggina would finish below them regardless.

As a result, the club will take their place in Lega Pro next term. They last played in Serie A in 2009.
