Reggiana are set to appoint Alessandro Nesta as their new coach for the 2023-24 season, having confirmed on Friday afternoon that the current incumbent, Aimo Diana will leave his post on June 30.

Diana will walk away from his duties at the end of this season, despite having spearheaded Reggiana’s return to Serie B after winning the Serie C Group B title earlier this season.

After announcing Diana’s departure, Reggiana, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, have agreed a deal with 2006 World Cup winner Nesta to take over the reins in the summer.

Since calling an end to his playing days in 2014, Nesta has held three different jobs as a coach, beginning with a two-year spell with Miami FC in the USL Championship in America, before moving back home to team up with Perugia for the 2017-18 season.

Most recently, Nesta was in charge of Frosinone in Serie B between 2019 and 2021, but was relieved of his duties two months shy of the end of his second season in charge.

Nesta will become the latest member of Italy’s 2006 World Cup winning squad to be given a shot coaching in the second tier, after Fabio Grosso led Frosinone to the league title this season, and with Massimo Oddo replacing Daniele De Rossi at SPAL in February.
