Swiss referee Sandro Schärer will officiate the decisive Champions League clash between Inter and Real Sociedad, while Slavko Vincic of Slovenia takes Napoli-SC Braga.

The final games of the Champions League group phase are next week, starting on Tuesday with a pair of crunch matches.

Inter and Real Sociedad have both already qualified for the Round of 16, but the Nerazzurri need a victory to guarantee they take top spot and therefore top seed status in the draw.

Schärer will officiate, with his fellow countryman Fedayi San in the VAR booth, assisted by Benoit Millot of France.

It is a curious choice, seeing as Schärer only officiated one UEFA game this season in the Europa League.

His record with Italy for club and country is very strong, winning all nine at senior level, including Inter’s 2-0 Champions League victory away to Viktoria Plzen.

On the contrary, Real Sociedad lost both Europa League matches with this referee, 4-0 to Manchester United in 2021 and 2-0 to Roma in March 2023.

Napoli can secure qualification for the Round of 16 as long as they avoid defeat to SC Braga.

Their game is officiated by Slovenian Vincic, with Nejc Kajtazovic as the VAR and assistant Rob Dieperink of the Netherlands.

Vincic already oversaw Lazio’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid and PSG 3-0 Milan this season, but this is his first Napoli or SC Braga match.

His record with Italians is seven wins, seven draws and three defeats at senior level.
