The crucial Champions League match between Milan and Borussia Dortmund will be officiated by Romania’s Istvan Kovacs, while Turkey’s Halil Umut Meiler is the referee for Lazio-Celtic.

UEFA have confirmed the refereeing designations for Tuesday’s games, as the group phase continues with qualification up in the air.

Milan are in a particularly tight group and their showdown with Borussia Dortmund at San Siro will be overseen by Romanian referee Kovacs.

He is assisted in the VAR booth by Pol van Boekel of the Netherlands and Romania’s Catalin Popa.

Kovacs famously officiated the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final last season when Milan beat Napoli 1-0 with Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa sent off.

When these sides met in Germany, it ended 0-0, but Borussia Dortmund are now top of the group, albeit only two points ahead of Milan.

As for Lazio, they host rock bottom Celtic at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday evening and the referee will be Turkey’s Halil Umut Meler.

The VAR is Alper Ulusoy of Turkey, assisted by Germany’s Bastian Dankert.

This is also an extremely tight group, albeit for the top three, as Celtic are last with just one point compared to Atletico Madrid on eight, Lazio seven and Feyenoord six.
