The referees and VAR officials have been assigned for the opening 2021-22 Serie A round, including Luca Pairetto for Roma v Fiorentina and Valerio Marini for Inter v Genoa.

The new campaign kicks off this weekend, with games going from Saturday August 21 to Monday August 23.

There are changes to the way VAR operates in Serie A this season, as they move from individual booths at the stadium to a centralised location in Lissone, near Monza.

It is hoped this will enable greater consistency in the rulings and also cut costs, as only four officials will travel to each game rather than six.

This means officials like Paolo Silvio Mazzoleni can follow two games in one weekend.
