The Italian Referee Association is disappointed by José Mourinho’s claims about Daniele Chiffi while the President of Italian coaches Renzo Ulivieri labels the Portuguese’s words as ‘serious and unacceptable.’

Mourinho blamed Chiffi following Roma’s 1-1 draw against Monza on Wednesday calling him the ‘worst referee’ he’s ever had. The Special One also admitted to taking a hidden microphone to the touchline to record what had been said between him and the referee to ‘protect’ himself.

On the other hand, Monza boss Raffaele Palladino defended the referee and said Roma’s protests were exaggerated and something he had ‘never seen’ before.

According to Gazzetta, AIA sources are disappointed rather than irritated following Mourinho’s claims. The Referees Association believes Chiffi made no mistakes and the referee will regularly be appointed for the next Serie A fixtures.

Renzo Ulivieri, the President of the Italian Coaches Association, has publicly blamed Mourinho.

“Italian coaches stand by the referees,” said the ex-coach, as quoted by Gazzetta.

“What Mourinho said is serious and unacceptable. Admitting to going to the bench with a microphone to record the dialogue between him and the referee staff, justifying it as a defensive choice undermines the whole system.

“It’s nothing personal. A month ago AIC praised Mourinho for the gesture towards his fans to back Dejan Stankovic who had been insulted. We’ll like to see this image from a coach with his charisma. It’s a quality that must increase his sense of responsibility.”
