There are differing opinions from the various Italian refereeing pundits on whether Milan’s late winner against Fiorentina should’ve been disallowed.

Ante Rebic was in the thick of it, as first he robbed Alfred Duncan, then he challenged Pietro Terracciano for the Aster Vranckx cross, which was bundled over the line by Nikola Milenkovic.

The Viola felt there were two potential Rebic fouls there, but the verdicts from former referees on Italian television channels are very different.

On Sky Sport Italia, Gianpaolo Calvarese maintains Rebic did impede Terracciano from reaching the cross, so it should’ve been disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper.

“Would Terracciano have been able to connect with the cross if Rebic had not been there? You have to say yes, therefore VAR should’ve called it back for an on-field review and disallowed the goal.”

However, DAZN pundit Luca Marelli insists both of these incidents are very open to interpretation and the referee was in an ideal position to see them.

“Awarding the goal was fair, especially as the challenge on Duncan was more of a foul than the one on Terracciano. You can see the goalkeeper rush out and move towards Rebic rather than the other way around.”
