Referee Daniele Orsato has been assigned to officiate the upcoming Champions League quarter-final clash between Chelsea and Real Madrid, leading the all-Italian team.

The pressure is on the Blues heading into the second leg of the tie, having lost the first leg 2-0 in the Spanish capital on Wednesday. Carlo Ancelotti guided Real Madrid to glory in the competition last season and will be hoping to repeat this achievement, especially considering Barcelona’ grip on La Liga this season.

Orsato will officiate the match between Chelsea and Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge, assisted by Ciro Carbone and Alessandro Giallatini. Maurizio Mariani will be the fourth official and Massimiliano Irrati will lead the VAR team, assisted by Paolo Valeri.

The 47-year-old Orsato has already overseen five Champions League matches this season, including Bayern Munich’s 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16 and RB Leipzig’s 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the group stages.

The Italian official was also the referee for the Champions League final in the 2019-20 season, which saw Bayern beat PSG 1-0.
