Dutch referee Danny Makkelie has been appointed for Tuesday’s Champions League game between Barcelona and Napoli, find out more about the 41-year-old official.

UEFA has confirmed that Makkelie will oversee Barcelona-Napoli in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday. His compatriots Hessel Steegstra and Jan de Vries will be his assistants and Rob Dieperink will be the Video Assistant Referee.

Makkiele, 41, is a part-time police inspector who has already officiated three Champions League games involving Serie A clubs this season: Inter-Benfica in October, Napoli-Union Berlin in November, and Newcastle-Milan in December.

This will be the second time he officiates a Napoli match.

Makkelie was also the referee for the opening Euro 2020 game between Italy and Turkey at the Stadio Olimpico and the 2020 Europa League Final, in which Inter lost to Sevilla.

Makkelie has officiated 45 Champions League matches in his career, showing 171 yellow cards and seven red cards. Napoli held Barcelona to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Maradona in the first-leg tie two weeks ago.
