Referee Clement Turpin infuriated Inter players and Simone Inzaghi in the early stages of tonight’s Champions League semifinal second leg against Milan.

The Nerazzurri won the reverse fixture 2-0 last week and aim to reach their first Champions League Final in over a decade.

Simone Inzaghi’s men were unhappy with the decisions from French referee Turpin in the opening 11 minutes of the game at the Stadio Meazza.

The 41-year-old blew the whistle three times in the first three minutes, signalling fouls from Inter players in attack. One was in the build-up of a goal-scoring opportunity that saw an Edin Dzeko shot frustrated by Mike Maignan.

However, it would not have stood as Barella had fouled Davide Calabria by pushing the Milan defender. Inzaghi was furious with the referee and was seen protesting to the fourth official.

Sport Mediaset pitch-side reporter confirmed the Nerazzurri boss was unhappy with Turpin’s call.

There were more complaints from Inter at minute 11 after Brahim Diaz had wasted a huge chance inside the box. The Nerazzurri thought Theo had fouled Barella in the build-up and surrounded the referee in protest.

Inzaghi had been critical of Turpin even before kick-off saying on the eve of the game that the referee was French, just like four Milan players.
