Marco Serra, the referee involved in the fiery touchline clash with Jose Mourinho during Roma’s loss to Cremonese, will return to the pitch in Serie B.

The 40-year-old was the fourth official in the Giallorossi’s 2-1 loss to the Lombardy outfit a month ago, when he was involved in a heated altercation with Mourinho, which ended with the Portuguese coach being shown a red card.

Roma were furious with the incident and the AIA – the Italian referees association – were equally frustrated, deciding to suspend him in Serie A. Serra was also referred to the Disciplinary Commission for possibly violating the ethics rules.

As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport, Serra will return to action this weekend, overseeing the Serie B league match between Venezia and Como.

The FIGC Prosecutor’s Office is debating whether to proceed with the allegations against Serra or to archive the case.

Mourinho was handed a two-match ban as a result of this incident and Roma’s appeal was rejected, further rubbing salt into the wound.
