UEFA’s examination of the ties between RedBird owned clubs Milan and Toulouse will begin next week, Tuttosport details.

Both clubs have qualified for European competitions for next season, with the former in the Champions League and the latter in the Europa League.

Article 5 of UEFA’s regulations makes it clear that two or more clubs owned by the same individuals cannot both compete in Europe, prompting them to investigate the links between Milan and Toulouse, who are both owned by Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird.

Tuttosport via TMW highlights how UEFA’s investigation into this situation will kick off on Monday next week, with a decision expected in the following days.

Also being analysed are the positions of Brighton and Union Saint-Gilloise, both owned by Tony Bloom, and Aston Villa and Vitoria Guimaraes, both owned by Nassef Sawiris.

One precedent commonly citied is the positions of RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig. The two clubs have competed in Europe, and even the same competition, on multiple occasions in recent history. They circumvented this issue by removing members of staff from Salzburg who had links with Red Bull and the cooperation between the two clubs was scaled back.
