Reports today suggest Redbird are close to agreeing a €1.3 billion takeover of Milan, beating out previous favourites Investcorp.

The Bahraini investment fund have been keen to purchase the Rossoneri for a number of weeks now and have been in close talks with owners Elliott Management. They’re ready to pay around €1.2 billion for the club, but the main roadblock concerns the formula of their funding; €400m of loans in addition to €800m of equity, something Elliott doesn’t want to affect the club.

As reported by Il Sole 24 Ore, Redbird have taken a step closer to buying Milan and they’re close to reaching an agreement on the basis of €1.3 billion, which could slowly increase to €1.8 billion over the coming years.

Elliott are expected to remain as an investor in the club, still holding a stake, and things could be completed soon. Redbird are a US based investment firm owned by Gerry Cardinale, and they have a $750 million stake in Fenway Sports Group, the parent company that owns Liverpool FC.

  1. How are they allowed to invest in another UCL club if they own Liverpool?

Nobody cares about regulations any more, they just circumvent if there is enough money to it.

  2. No thanks! Would rather we stick with Elliot than have these owners. Either sell to Arabs or stick with Elliot.

  3. I’d rather have seen the oil money tbh.

I mean, I get the whole ‘sportwashing is bad’ thing, but this feels like nothing will change. It’s just moving from one Wall Street profit hungry investment firm to another.

It always gets me how a country subjugating it’s people is somehow deemed worse than a company subjugating people all over the world in the pursuit of bottomless wealth. One is more direct but they are at the very least, equally as heinous.

  4. Not sure I like the sound of this so called report. I would have rather seen the offer of Investcorp be accepted. I know it’s rather shallow but I think a glamorous club like our beloved AC Milan should be showered with riches. The difference between us and say PSG is we have a history they can only dream of and we have the management in place which has shown over the last 2 years IS working.

  5. I’m glad. Let’s leave the oil money for the “new” clubs, the Man Citys and PSGs of the world who can’t win the CL no matter how much money they throw around.

I’d also prefer to stick with Elliot until an offer from someone or some respectable European or American company comes in, but that’s only because Elliot is the devil we know, and it has worked. Redbird might come in and do well with more investment. Here’s hoping.

  6. I’m also very glad. Any comparison between Redbird and Elliot is utter nonsense, cause Redbird is an investment fund with plenty of experience on sports business. It will be a fantastic revolution for our Milan.

  7. The last SerieA side owned by a Fenway adjacent organisation was Roma – they had Salah and Alisson who both now play at Liverpool

  8. You morons saying I wish we had Arab money don’t you know it was just an Arab fund not a state company? You wouldn’t have seen psg riches with investcorp

  9. Both options are good. More than we could as Milan fans jave wished for.

If i think short term is investcorp
If we think longterm is redbird

Redbird offers us the chance to build on the same model, which is a good growth model, a conscious model. With the American mindset of entertainment in sports

Investcorp is more attractive it feels, but their understanding of what it means and whats at stake is new therfore their long term commitment is quedtionable and i think for that reason will cost them the negotiation.

  10. Gino: I’m not I remember mentioning PSG. My point really was that there is no moral high ground here (there really isn’t) and the Investcorp bid seemed more lucrative (on the surface – I also never claimed to be an accountant). Moron is a bit harsh; maybe have a lie down?

  11. This is not good news for Milan and calcio. Oil money was by the far best chance to bring the club to the top and keep them there. Regardless of all the other baggage that comes with it.

  12. ACM1899… EXACTLY MY FEAR… AND IF THAT’S THE CASE PLEASE WE DON’T NEED THEM OOOH… THEY SHOULDN’T SHIP OUR PLAYERS TO LIVERPOOL
