The Swede remained on the bench for the whole game, as Milan drew 2-2 against Red Star in the first leg of the last 32 in the Europa League.

A video posted by journalist Arnesa Bujusmic-Kustura on Twitter shows the Milan striker unmoved as he is heckled by Red Star supporters who were not supposed to be in the stadium due to COVID restrictions.

News agency ANSA reports the Serbian side ‘sincerely apologised’ to the Swede ‘for the unpleasant episode’ and promised, in collaboration with the competent bodies, to identify and punish the responsible ‘fan’.

“Red Star condemn in the strongest manner the offensive sentences directed at Zlatan Ibrahimovic,” the club wrote in a statement.

“As a club we have done everything to ensure that the organisation of the match is at the level of the two great teams and we will not allow a single primitive to throw a stain on the traditional hospitality of our country and our people.”
