The Uruguayan will play his final match tonight in a special game in Montevideo, and spoke to Inter Channel about his career.

“My favourite goal for Inter, quality aside, was against Sampdoria [in 2005] in the game where we came back in the last minute,” the former midfielder said.

“It was an indescribable feeling, almost like my debut when everyone was waiting for Ronaldo [Recoba came off the bench to score twice].

“I couldn’t say who my best teammate was, I had so many strong players by my side I’d be disappointing someone if I only picked one.

“I was fortunate to play with so many champions, and I’ll be forever grateful.

“I was always happy during my career, because I was doing my hobby as my job, and I always just wanted to entertain people.

“I have no regrets. If I made mistakes as people say, then they stay with me as an experience, with no regret.”

Recoba won two Scudetti with the Nerazzuri, the first of which was awarded to the club after Juventus were demoted to Serie B in the Calciopoli scandal.

“As soon as I talk about that people will bring up my passport, but these things have nothing to do with that.

“It’s clear that those situations changed the history of Serie A. Italian football is a bit down now, more has to be risked on salaries and transfer fees for players.

“Inter? It’s true that there are teams with more money, but with [Roberto] Mancini on the bench Inter have an extra weapon, because he’s a great recruiter of talent and he’ll only do well with this team.”
