Croatia international Ante Rebic said Milan ‘aim to do better than last season’ and was happy to ‘prove I have the quality to play here’.

Rebic has signed a permanent contract with the Rossoneri until June 2025, having impressed on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt last season.

“I’m very happy to have signed for Milan,” Rebic told Milan TV. “I’m happy I was able to prove I have the quality to play here.

“When I first arrived last season, I said I wasn’t a striker, that I help the team in other ways. Then I scored 12 goals, I hope I can score more this season.

Rebic will wear No12 at Milan next season, a number he wanted already last season.

“There’s no real reason, I had wanted to take it last season,” he added. “But both No4 and No12 were taken. It was free now, so I took it.”

The Croatia international excelled when Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to San Siro in January and Rebic said ‘there’s no need’ for other leaders when the Swede is on the pitch.

“Zlatan is a great player, he helps the team and has a major effect on everyone,” Rebic revealed. “It’s always a pleasure to play with him, but I just focus on my own work and to do well in my role. I hope to do even better.”

“We have one leader on the bench, the coach, and another on the pitch, Zlatan. So, there’s no need at the moment.”

Coach Stefano Pioli gave him the confidence to shine in the second half of the campaign.

“It was very important, but I always worked well and he saw that I deserved a chance,” Rebic said. “When I got my chance, I did well.”

Milan start the new campaign against Bologna on September 21.

“I want to start with three points. The team winning is the most important thing. If I score, that’s great, but the most important thing is the win.

“We had a three-week break, but we always continued to train. Then, we started working three weeks ago and we are ready for the season to begin.

“We want to pick up where we left off last season. We want to do better than last season and continue winning.”
