The Brazilian marauder was the subject of intense speculation after Jose Mourinho’s Inter won the Champions League.

Real were unable to agree a deal at the time despite Mourinho himself making the move to the Spanish capital.

The Portuguese tactician is now looking back at his former club to sign Maicon, who spent the best years of his career under Mourinho’s stewardship.

Inter might be willing to tentatively discuss a deal as they want to reduce the average age of their squad and the wage bill.

The 30-year-old is also entering the last year on his contract which means if he stays and doesn’t sign an extension then he could leave San Siro next summer on a Bosman free transfer.
