Real Madrid are targeting Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli, Inter’s Nicolò Barella or Leeds United talent Kalvin Phillips, claim Sport.

According to the Spanish newspaper, new coach Carlo Ancelotti has given his club a list of three players who can inspire his Merengues next season.

Of the trio, two of them currently play in Serie A and are starring for Italy at Euro 2020.

There is plenty of competition for Sassuolo’s Locatelli, with Juventus in particular leading the pack along with PSG.

Inter have no intention of releasing Barella and consider him to be a future captain of the Scudetto-winning side.

The most likely candidate for Ancelotti at Real Madrid is therefore Phillips, who already impressed in England’s opening Euro 2020 game against Croatia.

The 25-year-old is also very versatile and can cover several different roles in midfield or even defence.
