David Alaba’s serious knee injury has pushed Real Madrid to look for reinforcements in January and they’ve reportedly set their sights on Atalanta talent Giorgio Scalvini.

Alaba suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the 35th minute of Los Blancos’ 4-1 win over Villarreal on Sunday evening, an injury that’ll keep him sidelined for the rest of the season. This has further reduced Carlo Ancelotti’s options at the back, with Eder Militao also out with a cruciate ligament issue.

Real Madrid are expecting another season with silverware and the lack of options at the back may push club president Florentino Perez to invest in the January transfer window to bring in a much-needed reinforcement.

As reported by AS, Real Madrid’s first choice option to bolster their backline in January is Scalvini, who has continued impressing at Atalanta since he broke into the squad two years ago.

The 20-year-old centre back, whose contract in Bergamo expires in June 2028, has also attracted the attention of other top clubs around Europe like Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid’s other options include Benfica’s Antonio Silva, who has a €100m release clause, and Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio, who would cost around €60-70m.
