Milan might have some problems in their pursuit of Ralf Rangnick, as it’s reported Red Bull are demanding €8m to release him from his contract.

It’s no secret that the Rossoneri have been in negotiations with 62-year-old Rangnick to take over as their coach for at least seven months, giving him carte blanche to control their transfer strategy as well as the team tactics.

However, Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio claims there’s a very big obstacle, as his current employers Red Bull want €8m to release him from his contract.

Rangnick had been a sporting director for both Red Bull Salzburg and Red Bull Leipzig, then coach for RB Leipzig in 2015-16 and 2018-19.

He is now the head of sport and development soccer of the Red Bull company, so covering NY Red Bulls and Red Bull Brasil as well as the other franchises.

It seems as if after months of barely-disguised talks from Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis, this poaching of their director irritated Red Bull, who are demanding a penalty payment.

Considering Stefano Pioli is getting impressive results with the Rossoneri, it increases the pressure on Gazidis to shelve the Rangnick project and stick with their current coach.

There is also tension within the club, as Zvonimir Boban was fired after complaining that Rangnick had been approached by Gazidis without informing the rest of the directorial staff, while Paolo Maldini is expected to walk away this summer.
