Giacomo Raspadori expects a strong Germany in tomorrow’s Nations League clash, feeling that they’re superior than Italy currently.

The Azzurri are preparing for their final Nations League match of this international break. It has been an interesting few weeks, with coach Roberto Mancini deploying a number of new faces in an attempt to rejuvenate the squad and find the right foundation to build off. Italy currently sit top of their Nations League group, one point ahead of second place Hungary.

Speaking in a press conference, Raspadori first discussed the Azzurri’s attacking issues.

“For forwards a goal is the most important thing, we live for that. We feel the responsibility but we live it with balance, from the point of view of scoring we have more difficulties, there are phases in which not everything succeeds perfectly, then we go back to doing what we want.

“Us forwards have to work together and certain things don’t come, we need pay more attention to detail. Many of us have not played together, these matches help us grow together.”

He commented on the superiority of Germany ahead of the match tomorrow.

“You could say they are stronger than us, many players have more experience than us. They have played many more international games together. So I’d say they’re superior, but in football you have to go out on the pitch and prove it.”

The Sassuolo forward gave his thoughts of Thomas Muller and if he takes any inspiration from the Bayern Munich man.

“I certainly appreciate that some compare me to him, to his way of playing. A player whose charisma I admired above all, he has an ease to play all roles, to always be helpful. I have seen him many times in the national team and with the club. He’s fantastic to watch.”

Raspadori touched on the Azzurri’s attacking trident and the changes made.

“There have been many changes, the coach has done well to put us in a position to express ourselves at our best. I have the possibility to adapt to several roles, I’m lucky to have teammates who give 100%.

“I think I can say I get on well with everyone, at the end of the day we are players who have similar, complementary characteristics, which lead us to express ourselves well together.”

He commented on which role he thinks he’s best at.

“By nature I feel like a primary forward, I grew up in that role. I feel more comfortable there. With Dionisi I found this different position, behind Scamacca and Defrel, I think I can do that well, because for characteristics I think I can do it well, as well as playing out wide.”

Finally, Raspadori discussed his growth in the last year and the transfer market rumours.

“You come to this period with more responsibility than a year ago. The fact that you have to play, for a young person, I think it’s fundamental.

“At least you have the chance to make mistakes, gain experience, live the negative moments in the right way. The real growth is living it in the right way in the negative moment. Surely that makes a difference.”

  1. He’s just speaking facts, Germany are at the next world cup, we’re not and for good reason, we don’t deserve to be there, we were lucky to win the Euros, had England not stopped attacking after 25 minutes they’d have comfortably won, and we only won in the end because it’s England and they are rubbish at penalties, the long run we was on as well was a false one, we only played a couple of teams of any note, we were mainly undeserved against inferior teams who we were not expected to lose against.

  2. Mancini must play his strongest 11, a win or draw now and his almost qualified, Mancini should be going for the title now.

  3. Italy was lucky to win the Euro????? That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve read here… Italy was the best team at the 2020 Euros – and nevermind the score- Italy outplayed England by a country mile.. Italy should have beaten them the other day, too…
