Inter captain Andrea Ranocchia replies to Massimo Moratti's jabs by lamenting the team's ‘turbulent year’, but has hopes for the future.
The former owner stated on Tuesday that Coach Roberto Mancini had been 'expecting more from the team', but the 27-year-old spoke out in his squad's defence.
“We all expected more out of everyone,” Ranocchia said, at a prize award in Milan.
“Unfortunately this year turned out to be a bit turbulent. We switched Coaches, which is never a good thing. But now our spirit has changed and we've all shown that.
“We must improve from a tactical and technical point of view, closing this season well and starting again on the next one, with Mancini from the very beginning. Things will surely be different.”
In spite of his team's struggle, Ranocchia was able to see a silver lining in terms of his personal performances.
“I agree that this was a positive year for me. I see myself in training and I realise I'm a completely different person now.
“Pupi [former captain Javier Zanetti] casts a very long shadow, but it's helping me develop day by day. And it's not going to stop because I'm getting better under every point of view.
“This holds true if we employ a four-man defence too. And I've played in every system, even as a full-back.
“As for the good chemistry with [Nemanja] Vidic, I'd rather say the reciprocal understanding is improving in the team as a whole. We're all aiming for the same objective.”
