Andrea Ranocchia is ‘so proud to play with these lads’ after his world-class strike took Inter to an extra time Coppa Italia win over Empoli.

The 33-year-old rarely plays and goals are even less frequent, yet he popped up with a spectacular acrobatic volley in stoppages to equalise 2-2 and force extra time.

“I am very happy above all that we qualified for the next round, as that was the main objective. Having scored a goal, I am even happier,” the captain on this night told Sport Mediaset.

Coppa Italia | Inter 3-2 Empoli aet: Ranocchia and Sensi to the rescue

“I try to always be ready when called upon, this is part of teamwork and we are a really solid group who prove that every time we step not the field. I am very pleased to be part of this team.

“I will keep going as long as they let me! I am so proud to play with these lads.”

Stefano Sensi came off the bench and scored the winner for 3-2 in extra time, despite the fact he wasn’t originally meant to be in the squad, as he is expected to join Sampdoria on loan tomorrow.

“Sensi is a splendid lad and also a really great player. Even with all the transfer rumours, he came on and put in a great performance. We all appreciate him here and I am happy for him.”
