Andrea Ranocchia is ready to captain Inter at San Siro for the first time when Sassuolo visit this weekend.
The defender was handed the armband in the summer after Javier Zanetti swapped the changing rooms for a desk job at the club.
“I’m quite emotional about it, but I have a great desire to prove myself and help this club get back to the top,” he told Sport Mediaset.
Ranocchia was handed the responsibility in the same summer which saw him linked with a move away from the outfit.
“It is four years that people say I’m leaving, but I’m still here and I hope to remain for some time to come,” he added.
“The championship has now kicked off, it is now time to start winning. We have to improve on the results of last season.
“We have a new and younger squad, one which is keen to start on an important journey.”
