Andrea Ranocchia was impressed with Italy’s ability to “hold firm under pressure” from Croatia.

“I am in good shape, have been working well and have also been at Inter for a few years now, so it’s only normal I am more settled,” the Inter defender told Rai Sport after a 1-1 draw.

“I played with three on the left under Ventura, I was in the centre of three with Mazzarri and I even was a full-back at times, so I can do it all now! My favourite positions are centre in three or centre-right in four.

“It was a difficult game today and we struggled a little, but held firm and that is what counts. When the going gets tough, you have to prove that you can sustain the pressure.

“Croatia are a very talented side who have been working together for longer, as they were already at the World Cup and we have just started with a new Coach.”

While Ranocchia was on international duty, Inter sacked Walter Mazzarri to bring in Roberto Mancini.

“When the Coach changes, it is everyone’s fault, from the club to the President and the players. Unfortunately we know that in football when things go badly, the Coach is the first to pay the price.”
