Sampdoria coach Claudio Ranieri’s future is uncertain, and Cagliari are reportedly eyeing an opportunity to enter talks with the coach.

Il Secolo XIX reports the Rossoblu are monitoring Ranieri’s situation in Liguria, hoping to bring the 69-year-old back where it all started.

Ranieri was the coach of Cagliari between 1988 and 1991, taking the Casteddu from Serie C to Serie A in three years.

But the former Leicester coach has interest from abroad too, according to the newspaper, where Valencia are eager to bring the Italian to Spain for a third stint at the Mestalla.

Ranieri coached Valencia between 1997 and 1999, before he returned for a season in 2004-05.

The report claims the veteran is experiencing the uncertainty ‘with a bit of disappointment’ towards patron Massimo Ferrero, but remains focused on the task in hand.

Il Secolo XIX, however, claims Ranieri would have signed for another year at the Marassi without hesitation.
