Claudio Ranieri praised Sampdoria for having confirmed their place in Serie A with four games remaining and was ‘super happy’ with the performance in the 2-0 defeat to Juventus.

The Old Lady wrapped up the title with the win at the Allianz Stadium last night but Ranieri was positive after the final whistle.

“We only have to congratulate the lads. It’s the eight or ninth game played every three days,” he said at a press conference. “Although we stayed up with four games remaining, the lads continued to give their all against Genoa and Juve.

“We fought for the whole 90 minutes. I’m super happy with the performance. Getting distracted a few times against a strong team is part of football.

“We did a great deal and maybe the result shows a different story, but I paid my compliments to the lads.”
