Claudio Ranieri believes Sampdoria’s quality made the difference in their 2-1 win over Fiorentina and insists the Blucerchiati’s target is 40 points and Serie A survival.
“He is a serious professional, he looks younger than his age and he is a role model for our young players,” Ranieri told Sky Sport Italia.
“I am satisfied with my players, I have many options on the bench thanks to the club. In the reverse fixture we played with a striker and a support striker, I used the same system today, but when I saw this system was not working today I changed it.
“We knew it would have been a difficult game,” he continued.
“I am lucky because I have a deep squad, the first half was very tactical, I made some substitutions in the second half and we managed to win the game. Quality paid off.
“We were lucky too, Milenkovic had a good opportunity at the end of the game, but his shot was wide.”
Sampdoria have an edge of 15 points on the relegation zone with 30 points in 22 games.
“Step by step, we must reach 40 points and pay attention,” Ranieri said.
“We had some difficult games, we could have lost against Benevento and Fiorentina, it can happen to lose four or five games in a row and lose enthusiasm, we must be careful.”
