Claudio Ranieri confessed Sampdoria ‘made it easy for Juventus’ with their errors at both ends of the pitch in a 2-0 defeat.

Federico Chiesa and Aaron Ramsey both finished off sweeping counter-attack moves at Marassi.

“We had wanted a different type of match, to be honest,” Ranieri told Sky Sport Italia.

“We lost the ball too often, had a lot of problems with their no-look passes over the top, but for the most part we made it easy for Juventus.

“In the second half, we did something more, but even then it was really just two Quagliarella shots and little else.

“We were unable to do what we thought that we would do. Emil Audero didn’t really have to make saves either, just when we lost the ball or with these no-look passes. I was more irritated with the lack of scoring opportunities we created.

“I would also like to congratulate the referee. We lost today, but he had a really good game.”

Samp beat Inter here a few weeks ago, what was different from that performance?

“Against Inter, I thought we were even more determined than today. We were worried when we had the ball. I had told the players, we can lose to Juve, but at least play the game, give it our best and have a go.”

The Blucerchiati were coming off back-to-back victories before this defeat. Are they looking forward to the European places or backwards to the drop zone?

“We said all season the plan was to not be in the same situation we were last year. Right now, we are in a more comfortable position, but in doubt we’re looking both ahead and behind our shoulders!”
