Claudio Ranieri admits he would ask Nantes to “let me go” if he was offered the Italy job, but warned Calcio “needs a reformation.”
The former Inter, Roma, Juventus, Chelsea, Greece and Leicester City boss has been one of the contenders for the role after Giampiero Ventura was sacked.
“Losing the play-off to Sweden was almost predictable. Perhaps it can even be a god thing, because Italian football needs a reformation,” Ranieri told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.

“We’ve got to put the Nazionale back at the centre of everything. Of course, everybody would love to do the Italy job, but I am very happy at Nantes.
“If a request were to arrive, I would ask the President to let me go. However, I think the most important thing is to reform the FIGC, with fresh energy and ideas.”
Ranieri won the Premier League with Leicester City and is flying surprisingly high in Ligue 1 at the helm of Nantes.
“It’s gratifying, as the team was bottom of the table midway through last season, then they worked well with Sergio Conceicao. Now we’re having fun.
“Unfortunately, Paris Saint-Germain are beyond anyone’s reach.”
