Ranieri hails ‘golden’ Totti

Claudio Ranieri set aside any reports of problems between them when stating Francesco Totti is “a lad with a heart of gold.”

The ex-Roma Coach often clashed with his captain, but took time out during an awards ceremony to mark Totti's 201st Serie A goal.

“I hope he scores another 200 and can reach the few remaining players above him in the all-time scoring charts as soon as possible,” said Ranieri.

“Francesco is a real champion, a professional, a lad with a heart of gold and he is our captain.”

Ranieri's assistant manager Christian Damiano was also at the ceremony and commented on Jeremy Menez looking for a move away.

“He can become a champion. Everyone deals with a player the way they see fit, but he is certainly a lad who needs to feel a lot of affection and respect around him. Now he has to confirm his quality.

“It's very difficult to start in Serie A when you are too young. Menez hasn't got much experience in a League like this, where the mentality is to get results above all else.”
