Roma boss Claudio Ranieri has refused to be drawn on his future. “We’ll see what happens…”

Roma have won two and drawn one of their last three games but face a Cagliari side on Saturday who have risen to 10th place in Serie A after a run of six victories from a possible 10.

“We must respect every team we face,” Ranieri said at a Press conference.

“it would be a mistake to underestimate the game as we’re fighting for the Champions League.

“Cagliari are a fearsome team made up of excellent players, so maximum focus will be needed.”

The 67-year-old then discussed various members of his squad, starting with the in-form Stephan El Shaarawy.

“Stephan is a conscientious lad. He manages to carry out both phases of play well, he’s reached double figures and made a great contribution to this Roma side.

“Under coming off at Inter was dictated by both his physical condition and the tactical aspect. I expect a lot more from him.

“Dzeko is a player who likes to participate in the game, like he showed at San Siro: he must link up with his teammates and be a point of reference for those around him.

“He can play with a partner, but they must understand Dzeko and when to support him.

“I’m convinced that Schick is a great champion. There are those who mature a little sooner or later. He has all the qualities to become a great player.

“I don’t know if Pastore will start, but I see him very motivated. He’s recovering. So is Perotti, although he isn’t 100 percent.”

Ranieri’s contract expires this summer, so is he any closer to figuring out his future?

"I never put myself forward for anything in my life, not even in this case.

“I now feel like Roma’s Coach until the end of the season, then we’ll see what happens.

“I arrived at a difficult time and, as a Roma fan, I accepted without hesitation.

“Cragno and Barella are two very good players. They’ll have a bright future, but for now I’m only thinking about Roma and ending this season.

“These two pillars also form part of the national team’s future.”
