Reports in France suggest former Sampdoria coach Claudio Ranieri is close to joining LOSC Lille in Ligue 1.

Reports from L’Equipe and France Football claim the former Roma, Inter, Juventus, Parma, Fiorentina, Napoli and Cagliari coach could be heading back to Ligue 1, where he spent two seasons with Monaco between 2012 and 2014 and one season with FC Nantes in 2017-18.

Christophe Galtier announced his departure before leading Lille to the Ligue 1 title in 2020-21 and Ranieri is now mentioned as his possible successor at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Ranieri helped Sampdoria finish ninth in Serie A last term and decided to part ways with Massimo Ferrero’s team, as he explained there ‘weren’t the right conditions to continue’.

L’Equipe and France Football claim Ranieri is close to returning to France, as the two parties are in talks and an agreement could be reached in the next few days.
