“We were 2-0 up and should’ve been able to control the game, but we conceded in a chaotic situation and that revived Benevento,” Ranieri told Sky Sport Italia.
“It should’ve been us taking the initiative, instead it was Benevento who pushed forward, while we sat there and were too passive. I saw more determination than against Juventus last week, but we were too frenetic and didn’t have the right mentality after we’d gone in front.
“I don’t know what has happened. We don’t think about what we’re doing, we are frenetic and don’t know when to hold the ball. I’ll talk to the lads and together try to work out what’s gone wrong.
“It’s strange, as in training we work perfectly well and then it’s different during the match situation. We don’t do what we are supposed to. We were 2-0 up, yet conceded a goal on the counter from our corner. In the second half, it was a long kick from the goalkeeper. It’s inexplicable.
“I complimented Pippo, because Benevento fully deserved the points, we cannot argue with that.”
Caldirola’s glancing header was the equaliser on a corner, his second of the game to go from 2-0 down to 2-2.
“Thorsby should’ve been protecting the second ball, but he went somewhere he shouldn’t have been. Then Jankto allowed him to get away, so there were two mistakes in there.”
