Sampdoria are now giving serious consideration to the idea of replacing Marco Giampaolo after a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Monza, with Claudio Ranieri and Roberto D’Aversa as potential coaches.

The Blucerchiati are rock bottom of the Serie A table with just two points from eight games, and those were draws earned against Juventus and Lazio.

The biggest problem for Samp is upfront, as they have scored only four goals in those eight rounds, conceding 16.

Giampaolo was already under pressure before the break for international duty and he was in the stands today at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, sitting out a touchline ban.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Samp chiefs are now ready to pull the plug on this second Giampaolo era, which began on January 19.

He was brought in to replace D’Aversa and could well now make way for his predecessor, because the 47-year-old is one of the candidates.

Another is also a return, because veteran Ranieri took the helm of Sampdoria from October 2019 to June 2021.

He was recently in charge of Watford for just 14 games before he was dismissed in January 2022.

Ranieri turns 71 later this month.
