He was in talks with Milan regarding a manager role in Via Aldo Rossi this year. However, the move for the former RB Leipzig coach never materialised and the German now thinks it’s for the best.
“Milan have done very well since the resumption of the championship, with nine wins and three draws” he told Süddeutsche Zeitung. “It wouldn’t have been wise to go there.
“It doesn’t matter from which perspective you look at all this, whether it’s mine or the club’s, it would not have been wise.
“If I put myself in the shoes of the Milan fans, whether it’s coaches, sporting directors, players or fans, I would hardly have understood why Milan would have wanted to change everything after such a positive period.”
Milan finished sixth in Serie A and ended the season on an unbeaten run of 12 games since the resumption in June.
