Rafael Leao admits Chelsea defender and former Milan star Thiago Silva is the toughest opponent he’s ever faced and explains why he always smiles on the pitch.

The Milan forward spoke to fans through his official YouTube account, nicknamed Way 45, replying to many questions about his career.

The 23-year-old was asked who is the toughest opponent he’s faced in his career: “Thiago Siva, an experienced player who has quality and understands the space well. He is a smart player, that’s the right word. Danilo [Juventus] is also strong,” he replied.

Leao has faced Thiago Silva twice this season during the Champions League group phase. The Brazilian is a former Milan defender and won the Serie A title with the Rossoneri in 2010-11 under Max Allegri.

Leao went on to say that he would change “nothing” in his career. “I’ve had highs and lows, but all helped me grow as a player and person.”

The striker added that his parents are the most important people in his life, while his footballing reference point is his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo. However, “Ronaldinho, Robinho and Neymar” were also among his favourite players as a kid.

The Portuguese made a promise to Milan fans: “I will paint my hair in black and red if we win the Champions League to represent Milan and the city of Milano.”

Lastly, Leao explained why he always smiles on the pitch: “Everyone has their own tics, their own way of showing that they are doing something they like. And mine, since I was younger, has always been showing my teeth and expressing what I love to do. That’s why I always laugh but it’s something I don’t realise, it just happens naturally.”
