Ionut Radu looked back at his high profile error with Inter last season, recalling that it was ‘a very difficult moment’.

The 25-year-old Romanian shot stopper was drafted in to replace number one Samir Handanovic, who was suffering from back problems, for the away trip against Bologna on April 27 and he was hoping for a strong showing in order to try and advertise his qualities.

Unfortunately for Radu, he advertised something completely different, and gifted Bologna a winner in the 81st minute after being caught out with the ball at his feet. The mistake cost the Nerazzurri both a vital point and momentum, with many fans considering that loss the moment their Scudetto hopes were dashed.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Radu looked back at the incident and reflected on what he learnt.

“After the mistake in Bologna-Inter, I was really down, it was a very difficult moment for me. I remember well what Samir Handanovic said to me. The next day he said that that mistake would make me grow.

“He was right, in these cases you have to get back up and work even harder. Forget and learn from mistakes.”

He then touched on his decision to join the newly promoted Cremonese on a season-long loan deal from the Nerazzurri.

“I’m in a team that has a lot of desire, which after 26 years is back in Serie A with great determination. That’s what I’m here for, too. And for me, to prove myself, something I couldn’t do in the last two years.

“Alvini and building up from the back? Yes, but without overdoing it, when it can be done. If the option isn’t there, I have to look for the strikers.”
