Stefan Radu is back in the Lazio squad after putting the row behind him. “It was the worst period of my career, now this feels like my first day.”

The 32-year-old has been at the club for over a decade, since moving from Dinamo Bucharest in January 2008.

He had been left out of the pre-season training squad, reportedly due to a row with director of sport Igli Tare and several teammates, but was welcomed back to the camp today and held a brief Press conference.

“I want to thank the club and President for the opportunity to be part of the Lazio family again. I went through the worst period of my career, as from March onwards, I simply wasn’t myself, as a player or a man. I had this ankle injury and it just wouldn’t heal, so I started thinking negatively.

“I got it wrong towards the club and my teammates. I am here today to apologise to all those I might’ve offended during that period. I feel like a new signing and this is my first day. I have so much experience now, I can still give this team a great deal.

“When news emerged that Lazio didn’t want me anymore, I received many offers, but I always said no straight away to whatever arrived on my desk.

“This is a moving occasion now, and I hope to repay the club for their faith in me. I am back home. I made a mistake and I recognise that, so all this is like a weight lifted off my shoulders. I thank the fans for their support.”
