Ionut Radu’s agent admits the Inter goalkeeper is disappointed by the treatment he is receiving as Simone Inzaghi left him on the bench for the last Coppa Italia game against Roma.

The 24-year-old has only played one game this season, conceding two goals in Inter’s 3-2 win over Empoli in a Coppa Italia round of 16 clash in January.

Serie A coaches usually rotate their teams in Coppa Italia games, giving some playing time to second-choice goalkeepers, such as Radu.

However, Inzaghi picked Samir Handanovic for the match against Roma on Tuesday and Radu’s agent Oscar Damiani revealed that his client was not impressed with the coach’s decision.

“Why didn’t he play? Everybody expected it,” Damiani told Gianlucadimarzio.it.

“He wasn’t given an opportunity in Coppa Italia and we are really surprised. He played 120 minutes against Inter and he did well.

“He had received important offers in January, from Italy and Europe, but Inter wanted to keep him.

“He is being praised during training sessions, but then, they don’t give him the chance to prove it on the pitch. I respect the club’s decision, Handanovic and Inzaghi, but Radu deserved that stage. He is disappointed.”

  1. And rightly so. The one reason Inzaghi picked Handanovic was to immediately get him confident again in a strong answer after the dramatic derby outcome, is my guess.
Radu should get a good explanation and treatment though; he surely deserves his chances in the coppa; as well as a fair chance to prove himself against Onana in the summer.

  2. Radu played terrible vs Empoli. If I was inzaghi and coming off that derby defeat there is no question I’m taking my full squad and picking Hando. Our bench players are a level down and it shows everytime, we are paying these guys millions of dollars, they can play twice a week. In the end, radu is weak and needs to be sold this summer.
