France thanked Serie A for their equaliser against Australia in the World Cup, as Milan’s Theo Hernandez provided the assist for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, before Olivier Giroud added another.

Les Bleus were trailing to an early Craig Goodwin goal, during which Lucas Hernandez sustained a knee injury and had to be replaced by his younger brother, Theo.

This proved pivotal, as Theo Hernandez then whipped in the cross for Rabiot’s header to draw level.

It was the third goal that Rabiot has scored for France, after the 8-0 World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan in November 2021 and the 1-1 Nations League draw with Croatia in June 2022.

Rabiot then added an assist moments later, rolling across from the left for Milan striker Giroud to sweep home.

This is an extraordinary campaign for Rabiot, who has already found the net five times in 16 games for Juventus this season between Serie A and the Champions League.

He is already on the verge of setting a new personal best at league level, scoring four for Juve in 2020-21 and four for PSG in Ligue 1 in 2014-15.
