Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw by Genoa on Friday evening, but the papers on Saturday morning are all in agreement that the Bianconeri were wrongly denied a second penalty, leaving experts questioning the lack of VAR intervention.

Juve had led after 28 minutes on the night after Federico Chiesa converted from 12 yards, before Albert Gudmundsson drew the visiting Genoa level three minutes after the start of the second half.

Referee Davide Massa, however, has come under criticism after waving away a potential Juventus penalty after the ball clearly struck Mattia Bani’s arm in an outstretched position in the second half.

There have also been questions raised over a potential missed red card for Ruslan Malinovskyi after a reckless, high challenge on Kenan Yildiz in the closing stages of the game as well.

Both Il Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport agree in Saturday morning’s post-match coverage that Massa had made errors on both calls, and that the Old Lady should have had the chance to put themselves ahead again from the spot.

Both papers have also questioned the lack of VAR intervention, particularly for the penalty shout, as the initial call had looked questionable.

Unfortunately for Juventus, they have not jumped ahead of title-rivals Inter, who will play Lazio on Sunday evening for the chance to move four points clear at the top of the Serie A table.
