Fabio Quagliarella will have minor surgery on Monday after the Juventus striker fractured his right cheekbone at Lecce.

The forward, who this time last year snapped knee ligaments, spent the night in hospital following his latest set-back.

The 28-year-old had scans on the injury and the decision to operate was taken in order to speed up his recovery time.

“The game yesterday brought the team an excellent result, but it cost me,” the former Napoli player noted this morning.

“I’ll need surgery, but it will all be OK and I’ll return more determined than I am now. Thanks for your support.”

Quagliarella started just his second League game of the season yesterday before being replaced by match-winner Alessandro Matri.

The decision to pick him in the starting XI was a clear indication that boss Antonio Conte doesn’t want to lose him during the January transfer window.

“He was never on the market,” the tactician noted. “And that continues to be the case. Rumours about him have been circulating since July, but the club have focused on him.

“It’s just a shame that he is being followed by injuries. I hope to have him available again as soon as possible.”

It’s unclear how long the player, last week linked with Roma and Inter, will be sidelined for after his latest setback.
