Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella has thanked the club for ‘letting me live a second youth’ at the age of 36.

Quagliarella’s 21 goals this season have not only made him joint-Capocannoniere in Serie A but also seen him break back into the Italy squad, going on to become the Azzurri’s oldest-ever scorer.

“For me, Samp are everything,” he told Il Secolo XIX.

“I owe them so much. I felt their belief as soon from the first moment I put on their jersey and they took me to the national team.

“For me, Samp are everything,” he told Il Secolo XIX.

“I owe them so much. I felt their belief as soon from the first moment I put on their jersey and they took me to the national team.

“Now they’ve let me live a second youth, which makes me happy. I feel at home, I feel the affection of the fans and city.”

The former Juventus and Napoli attacker then looked ahead to Sunday’s Derby della Lanterna between Samp and Genoa.

“Both sets of fans have always treated me well,” he continued.

“There’s the risk that opposing fans can create hostility in other cities, but these Genoese derbies are wonderful.”
